Fontwell Park Race Course and Leisure Centre in Sussex

fontwell-park-race-courseThe Fontwell Park racecourse and leisure centre is one of those English ‘open secrets’ that has finally been uncovered and put into the headlines where it deserves to be. Fontwell Park features an incredibly beautiful compact racecourse nestling in the stunning English countryside in the village of Fontwell, not far from the charming historical town of Chichester in the south-eastern county of Sussex

It was made into a racecourse in 1924 by the visionary race horse owner and trainer, Alfred Day known for having an eye for potential winners when buying the cheapest horses that were up for sale in obscure places around the UK. Fontwell Park race course has received the fabulous accolade of ‘Best Small Racecourse in the South-East’ for 19 years on the trot and has enjoyed a lot of new capital investment in recent years bringing the leisure facilities up to an excellent standard putting it on a par with the best racecourse leisure facilities in the UK.

Top Class Hospitality Whilst Enjoying the Races

A small hotel has recently been built on the complex as well as a new tastefully designed hospitality centre, the 888Sports Premier Grandstand that was completed in 2010 and blends in beautifully with the lush green park around it. Currently, there are just 20 racing events scheduled annually but as the public becomes increasingly aware of the exceptional facilities and the ‘intimacy’ of the racetrack which can be viewed in its entirety from the Grandstand seats, balconies, restaurants and hospitality boxes of the glass fronted building it is sure that more race meetings will be held there in the near future due to popular demand.

The steeplechase race track has a unique figure of eight form and was designed in this way to be accommodated in the relatively ‘small’ space of the park as well as a regular oval shaped hurdles track. Fontwell Park is easily accessible by rail from Central London stations in particular and all over the country by road and even by helicopter and light aircraft on racedays! The Fontwell Park website gives excellent information about getting to this location of outstanding beauty which is guaranteed to give a marvelous day out for all the family.
